The disinfection of Methodist Churches in Tamale, in the Northern Region, by Zoomlion Ghana Limited will help allay fears members of the church have about the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), and encourage them to have the zeal to once again engage in communal worship.

These were the Methodist Church in Changli, Tamale and Bethel Methodist Cathedral also in Tamale.

Superintendent Minister of the Tamale Circuit-Synod, who also doubles as the Secretary of the Tamale Diocese, Very Rev Joshua Tawiah, made the observation when Zoomlion carried out a disinfection and dis-infestation exercise in the church last Thursday.

He said the Covid-19 pandemic had had both positive and negative effects on the church in general.

In his view, the pandemic had exposed some of the weakness in our activities.

“For instance, Christianity has been built around communal worship, and during the lockdown you realised that people who had the zeal for communal worship were not happy at that time—they wished that they had come for worship, but the Covid did not allow them to come to church,” he said.

On the positive impact, Very Rev Tawiah indicated that the pandemic opened their eyes to the use of technology to do virtual worship, using Facebook and other social media platforms.

According to him, the reason the Methodist Church of Ghana decided to resume worship on Sunday, June 14, 2020, was to allow them space to put in place adequate measures to protect its members against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“…and one of these measures is the disinfection exercise of all Methodist Churches in the country by Zoomlion Ghana Limited,” the man of God intimated.

Continuing, he disclosed that stewards of his church have been charged with the task of purchasing Veronica buckets and alcohol-based hand sanitisers for use by members.

To this end, Very Rev Tawiah affirmed that the leadership will ensure that members comply strictly with all the Covid-19 preventive protocols.

He commended Zoomlion Ghana Limited for the exercise, stating it will help fight the virus.
