Dagbon: Royal funerals have boosted investor confidence – Minister

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed, has disclosed that several potential investors have declared their intentions to inject resources to enhance the development drive of the Northern Region.

This, he attributed to the Dagbon peace roadmap and the royal funerals of the two late Overlords of Dagbon.

Though Mr Saeed failed to disclose the investors, he revealed that “the investors have made their minds clear to come in and invest heavily”.

He described this as an unprecedented level of interest shown by corporate entities.

Speaking to members of the Northern Region Keep Fit Clubs Association on Saturday, 29 December 2018 in Tamale during the launch of their end of year Sports Festival, the Minister said he cannot quantify in monetary terms the value of peace that the Dagbon roadmap has brought to the people and the entire country.

He was excited that the Abudu royal family has successfully completed the funeral of the late Dagbon Overlord, Ya Na Mahamadu Abdulai IV.

The Abudu royal family is expected to vacate the Gbewa Palace on Saturday to allow the next funeral of the late Ya Na Abdulai Yakubu Andani II to be performed by the Andani royal family beginning 4 January 2019.

Commenting on the creation of the proposed Savannah and North East regions, Mr Saeed noted that he was of the firm belief that the move will reduce the poverty margin in the Northern Region and improve on the economic values of the areas. He was also optimistic that, the intermittent conflicts in the area would be reduced drastically.

“If the size of a region is very small, the security will have the opportunity to manage and combat crime efficiently and effectively. If you cannot handle a bigger thing, strategically, its good you take smaller parts to handle, that one you can see efficiency and effectiveness in your delivery,” he observed.

He said the new regions will create job opportunities for the people to work in various sectors required in the new regions.
