Cubana Chief Priest granted N10m bail

Popular businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest was granted a N10 million bail by the Federal High Court in Lagos State on Wednesday, April 17.

Earlier in his trial, the popular barman entered a not-guilty plea on charges of manipulating and abusing the nation’s currency.

Cubana Chief Priest was charged with three counts of abuse and tampering which violates the Central Bank Act of 2007.

He was seen in two separate videos spraying the currency at two different social gatherings in 2020 and 2024. The latter was on February 13 at the Eko Hotel while the former was in Lagos but at an undisclosed location.

His arrest comes off the back of the arrest and subsequent sentencing of popular crossdresser, Bobrisky.

Recall that the controversial crossdresser was found guilty of similar charges on April 5, 2024. As a result, he was sentenced to six months in prison on Friday, April 12, 2024, without the option of a fine.

The EFCC announced earlier on Sunday, April 14, that it was looking into claims made by several celebrities regarding the misuse of naira notes.

In a statement, its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said, “Many of them have made useful statements to the commission and many more have been invited by investigators working on the matter.

“The EFCC will not relent in its no-sacred-cow mode of operations and the public should be wary of running afoul of laws against the crime.”
