An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded three persons into police custody for allegedly robbing a businessman.

Meanwhile, the police are looking for one Asuquo Mbuotidem Edem, alias Faith, their accomplice now on the run.

The Court presided over by Mrs Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye ordered the accused to reappear on June 24.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mawunyo Nanegbe told the Court that Mr Kennedy Nkansah, the complainant, is a businessman and a resident at Pobiman near Amasaman while Akpan, Akyene and Bassey lived at Kasoa in Accra and Central Regions, respectively.

He said on February 26, this year, at about 0200 hours while the complainant was asleep with his family, he heard noise from his electric fence alarm system and he thought it had developed fault however he later saw a flash light under his bedroom door.

Prosecution said he opened the door to check and saw three men with one pointing a pistol at him whilst the others wielded cutlasses and a mental part of a pick axe.

DSP Nanegbe said Akyene took five Samsung cellular phones, an iphone 6, valued at GH?6,950.00 and forcibly removed the wedding rings of the complainant and his wife.

He said Edem also took a set of jewellery valued at GH?15,000.00, eight pieces of African prints valued at GH?2,860.00 and an unspecified amount of money and cash as well as GH?18,000.00 and USD3000.

The Prosecution said the accused persons left the house amidst the firing of gun shots to scare people.

He said the complainant then lodged a formal report to the police which led to the arrest of the three accused persons.

The Prosecution said Akpan, Akyene and Bassey led police to a nearby bush at the TF Hostel located at North Legon-Accra where three pistols, one long cutter, a designed metal bar and two cutlasses used for their operations were retrieved.

He said they also admitted the offence and demonstrated how they entered the complainant’s house.

It would be recalled that the accused persons had earlier appeared before court charged with robbery in similar circumstances.
