Court grants Speed Darlington bail after police arraignment

The Nigeria Police Force has finally arraigned singer Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, in court after weeks in detention.

Speed Darlington was arrested in October 2024 over allegations of defamation and cyberstalking related to his statements about fellow singer Burna Boy.

He had accused Burna Boy of having an illicit relationship with embattled American music executive Sean Combs, popularly known as Diddy.

He said,“After Burna Boy posted a photo of him and Diddy that year, Burna won Grammy. Burna Boy, don’t be offended, but how many oils did Diddy use on you before they gave you the Grammy Award?”

He also revealed that he’s not afraid of Burna Boy, in addition to releasing a diss track titled Baby Oil.

Following his arrest, a bail was secured for the singer at a Federal High Court on December 23 but his release was not effected by the police.

His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has now revealed that another bail application moved by the singer has been granted after the police arraigned him in court on Wednesday.

He shared on X, “Police finally arraigns Speed Darlington in court. Bail application moved and granted. We are trying to perfect same.”
