“I don’t see the usefulness” of the National Cathedral by President Nana Akufo-Addo, Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper says.
Kwesi Pratt, making his submissions on Peace FM‘s ‘kokrokoo’ programme, held a strong view that the President is having misplaced priorities.
The cedi has currently crossed GH¢5 to a dollar, GH¢4.42 in the same period last year and GH¢4.27 in January 2017 – a situation many Ghanaians fear might aggravate further if the government fails to address it.
Mr. Pratt told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that the focus of the government shouldn’t be to establish a National Cathedral in the country but to put pragmatic steps in place to bridge the huge gap between the cedi and dollar currencies.
He wondered what benefits the construction of the National Cathedral will have for the nation saying “that [focus] concentration on the National Cathedral, if the same focus was on industry and so on; it would have been more beneficial for us. Our cedi wouldn’t have rotted. Your cedi is deteriorating and you’re talking about National Cathedral.”
