Confusion in Atiwa West as DCE Allegedly Blocks NPP MP from Astroturf Commissioning

Tensions flared in Atiwa West after the District Chief Executive (DCE) allegedly stopped the constituency’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) from taking part in the commissioning of a new astroturf facility.
Eyewitnesses claim the DCE, reportedly backed by National Security operatives, physically prevented the MP from entering the venue, sparking heated exchanges among party members and community residents. The dramatic incident left many shocked, with some accusing the DCE of using state security to undermine the MP’s role.
The MP, visibly displeased, described the action as undemocratic and disrespectful, insisting that the people of Atiwa West were being deprived of their right to witness their representative at the event. He further argued that the project was meant to serve the community and not individual political interests.
Meanwhile, supporters of the DCE defended the move, claiming it was meant to maintain order, though they offered little explanation as to why the MP was sidelined.
The incident has raised questions about unity within the NPP at the local level, with calls for the party’s leadership to step in and resolve the matter before it escalates further.
