CONFIRMED: One dead 3 injured in ‘Bawumia accident’ treated, discharged

All three security operatives injured in the accident involving Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have been discharged after receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Regional Hospital.

The three who were part of the convoy travelling with the Vice President Saturday sustained various degrees of injury. Two in the neck and shoulder respectively. The third whose case was more critical was released after being given some infusions Sunday morning.

The convoy of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was on Saturday involved in a fatal motor accident at Asemasa near Beposo on the Takoradi-Cape Coast highway on Saturday 16th February 2019, while returning from the Western Region.

Some security persons with him and passengers from the other vehicle were injured and rushed to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital.

Dr. Bawumia however escaped unhurt.

A statement from the Vice President‘s Office said the driver of a commercial vehicle which was involved in the crash died.

“Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia escaped unhurt in an motor accident On Saturday, 16th February, 2019”, the statement read.

It added: “The driver of a commercial vehicle which was also involved in the accident unfortunately, however passed on.”

Bawumia’s convoy was involved in a similar accident on the Yendi-Tamale road in December 2018.
