CHRAJ understated cash found in sacked PPA Boss’ personal bank accounts – Amidu

Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has commended the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) for the investigations conducted into the underhand dealings of the sacked Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority.

He has however observed that the Commission understated amounts lodged into the persona account of A.B Adjei in its investigations about the infamous contracts for sale scandal.

CHRAJ ought to be commended for its work and report. The only problem with the CHRAJ report is that for some reason it understates the amounts disclosed by the bank statements from the three banks accounts of Mr Adjei exhaustively reviewed by the Auditor General for this Office.”

Mr Amidu also revealed that investigations into the issues involving the boss of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) A.B Adjei hit a snag because he realized his investigators were compromised.

“In the interim, it was becoming apparent from the manner the investigations were being conducted by the staff of the seconded investigators to this office that two of them were compromised because the Acting Head of Investigations and the Case officer used less than one hour to search the premises of Talent Discovery Limited, Mr. Adjei’s residence and Mr.Francis Arhin’s residence and literally found no material exhibit, not even an iPad or a phone,” he said in a statement issued on the case involving the former PPA boss.

Mr. A. B. Adjei was suspended from office by President Akufo-Addo following an investigative documentary by Manasseh Azure Awuni, which revealed a company he co-owned, has been selling government contracts it won through single-source and restrictive tendering, to the highest bidder.

President Nana Akufo-Addo also directed (CHRAJ) and the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the former PPA Boss for conflict of interest and corruption.

CHRAJ in their report last week recommended to the President to sack the PPA boss and bar him from holding any public office for the next five years.

A. B Adjei was sacked from office and barred from holding public office for five years.
