Leicester City head coach, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, has shunned exit talks surrounding Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old last played for the Foxes in their 2-2 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion in the first week of December and was withdrawn in the 52nd minute after suffering a hamstring injury.

Leicester City are currently 19th on the English Premier League table and have won just one game from six in the league since the Nigerian last played for the club.

Amidst exit talks linking Ndidi with a move to Monaco, Ruud Van Nistelrooy has cleared the air, revealing the midfielder will stay put at the King Power Stadium.

“No, of course not. Wilfred is a key player and person in the squad and in the club and I’m glad he is nearly there to help the team again. We know how much we’ve missed him and we know we need him. Wilf is key in the coming months, a key part of this team that can get us out of this situation,” the former Manchester United striker said in quotes revealed by BBC Sports.

Ndidi signed a new three-year contract with Leicester City after his deal with the club ran out last summer, with the option of extending for another year. However, a move could be on the cards when this season ends, especially if Van Nistelrooy’s side returns to the EFL Championships.

Ahead of Leicester City’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Ruud Van Nistelrooy confirmed he’ll be without the one-time FA Cup winner on the road to the London Stadium.

“I can’t yet say (when Ndidi will return). It’s getting a lot closer to the possible mention of a return date. That’s how good he’s going. So hopefully by next week, there will be more updates on him. Wilfred is making very good progress in his rehabilitation. Hopefully, he can be part of team training next week sometime,” the ex-Real Madrid striker added, as revealed by Leicester Mercury.

Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester have been collectively poor in recent weeks, and a win tomorrow could be a vital statement in the final standings of both clubs when the season ends.
