Chaos in Asante Mampong as angry NDC supporters vandalize property, set items ablaze

Some irate youth of the National Democratic Congress in the Asante Mampong municipality have for two days staged protest on the nomination of a municipal chief executive.

On Wednesday and Thursday, they stormed the party office to vandalize property and openly set ablaze some items, including office furniture.

Police and fire officers had to intervene to restore law and order, though no arrests were made.

Three individuals were shortlisted for the MCE position, but the supporters insist one of them should be nominated. They include Constituency Chairman, Mohammed Kamil; the 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Mampong, Yakubu Yakubu, and a leading party member, Imoro Iddrisu.

But the agitated supporters claim a 4th individual, Esther Dwomoh, has been named for the position, a move they are poised to resist.

Mampong NDC Communications Officer, Kwaku Bernasko, explained the agitated youth stormed the party office to express their displeasure to the national party executives.

“We are ready to support any of the three persons vetted and shortlisted for the MCE position. While we await the President to nominate any of them, any other individual to be named will be resisted,” he said. “The NDC party will be in disarray if our leaders impose any MCE us”.
