Chaos at UDS over nomination of TEWU-TUC member to the university’s governing board

There were dramatic scenes at the University for Development Studies (UDS) campus in the northern regional capital, Tamale, on Friday, April 25, 2025.

A video shared by JoyNews on X on Friday showed chaotic scenes at the university.

The chaotic scenes resulted from a clash over the appointment to the governing board of the university, which some people were not pleased with.

According to reports, the appointment of one Emmanuel Asampana, a member of the Teachers’ and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the university, to its governing board was not acceptable to the displeased faction.

The video showed a group of men exchanging punches, while some of the men could be seen being dragged in the midst of the fighting.

Some men and women could also be heard yelling and expressing their disbelief over the incident.

The video was captioned: Protest erupts at UDS over the nomination of Emmanuel Asampana of TEWU-TUC to the UDS governing board.
