Cement shortage hits Accra amid difficulty in sourcing clinker – Report

Reports have noted a widespread shortage of cement across the country due to a scarcity of some raw materials used in its production.

According to several cement dealers, the shortage is negatively affecting their business and operations.

Patrons have complained that cement brands such as Sol Cement, Empire Cement, and Dzata Cement have experienced shortages in recent weeks.

A report by citinewsroom.com highlighted the frustrations of cement retailer Augustine Edufo, who shared how this situation has impacted his business.

“Sometimes, you go and pay, and they tell you that there is a shortage. I paid two weeks ago, and when I called, they asked me to wait another week or two.

“The issue is that they don’t have clinker, which is key for their production,” he said.

The shortage has been attributed to the scarcity of clinker, a crucial raw material for cement production.

In addition to the shortage, there has been a recent price increase of GH¢9 across all cement brands, driven by higher port charges.

Dealers and retailers mentioned that the difficulty in sourcing clinker is the primary reason for the inability to get new stock.

It remains unclear when the shortage will be resolved.
