Captain Planet Reveals Interest in 4X4 Music Catalogue Acquisition by Major Industry Player

Captain Planet, a member of the now-defunct Ghanaian music trio 4X4, has revealed that a major player in the music industry has expressed interest in purchasing the group’s entire music catalogue.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the rapper shared the news with fans, describing the development as a potential breakthrough for the group’s legacy. In his post, he stated:

“Good news guys. I just had a call from one big industry player that a company wants to buy 4×4 music catalog. Let me call Coded & Fresh Prince. I will be back. He said, ‘Planet I no dey joke oo so get back to me.’”

Although Captain Planet has shown enthusiasm about entering into talks, he clarified that his former group members, Coded and Fresh Prince, are yet to finalize their individual stances on the proposal. Discussions among the trio are expected to take place soon.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans expressing reservations about the group selling their music rights, citing concerns about legacy and control.

However, Captain Planet defended the idea, pointing out that selling music catalogues is an increasingly common practice in today’s music industry.

“If I should tell you guys the number of your favourites who have sold their music catalogues and live performances secretly… some of them are still in negotiations. Your artist no tell you say dem sell their catalogues secretly,” he wrote.

4X4, known for hits like World Trade Center, Yesi Yesii, and Waist & Power, was one of Ghana’s most successful music groups during the 2000s and early 2010s. Although the group has not officially disbanded, its members have been pursuing solo careers in recent years.

As discussions continue, fans will be watching closely to see whether the deal goes through and what it could mean for the future of 4X4’s music legacy.
