C/R: 500 pupils abandon school over death trap classroom block

Over 500 pupils of the Krobo Methodist Primary School in the Krobo Ahwuim electoral area of the Central Region have literally abandoned school in view of the deplorable nature of their classroom block which they say is a death trap.

The over 30-year-old structure housing the pupils according to authorities, has not seen any face-lift thereby posing as a major risk to the lives of pupils in view of its deplorable nature.

Although the headteacher and other teachers of the School declined commenting on the matter for fear of victimization, the Assembly member for the area Mr. Prince Nana Sankah corroborated findings by MyNewsGh.com that the school was established about 50 years ago but has not seen any expansion to befit the high enrollment numbers of pupils.

According to him, the community through its own contributions, put up the classroom block in the 1990’s but it  has since not seen any renovation works explaining that residents over the years have run out of the necessary resources to renovate the  school block.

Prior to pupils preferring to stay home than attend school, they are mostly forced to close each time it is threatening to rain appealing to philanthropists Non-Governmental Organizations(NGOs) to come to their rescue.

He was optimistic that the renovation of the classroom block would save some 500 students who sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) each year with many failing due to the unavailability of proper infrastructure.
