Businessman defeats incumbent NDC Upper West Regional Chairman

A 48-year-old businessman, Alhaji Nasir Saani, popularly known as Bunas, has won the Upper West regional Chairmanship slot of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) with a landslide victory.

Alhaji Nasir Saani, who is known as a bankroller of the NDC in the region beat his only contender, Mathew Sungaabu with 307 votes in the party’s regional delegates congress held at the Wa campus of the University for Development Studies.

Mr. Mathew Sungaabu, the incumbent regional chairman only managed to get 81 votes contrary to earlier speculations that he was going to be retained.

Alhaji Nasir Saani, speaking after their swearing-in, thanked the delegates for the confidence they have in him.

He pledged to work with the rank and file of the NDC in the region to win back the 5 constituency seats that the party lost to the governing NPP in the last general elections.

“This victory is for everyone. Agenda win back our five sets starts now. Let’s all come together to ensure that we win back our seats”.
