Burning Jerseys, Public Outrage: How ‘pained’ Liverpool fans reacted to Trent’s free departure

On May 5, 2025, Arnold explained that his decision to leave the club was taken after thorough reflection on his career, as it would help him change environments and compete at a different level to bring out the best in himself.

The Liverpool defender noted that he has been with the team since childhood and has won most of the trophies in his career; however, he believes it is time for him to move on, even though it won’t sit well with most of the fans.

Indeed, some supporters of the ‘Reds’ were angry with the player for leaving his boyhood club without earning any fee to compensate for his loss and aid the team’s finances.

Others, who were absolutely furious, burned Trent’s jersey, took a video, and shared it on social media to showcase their annoyance with the player’s departure.

There were those who expressed their disappointment in the right-back for leaving the club on a free transfer and possibly joining their European rivals, Real Madrid if a deal is sealed.

Arnold played 352 games, scored 23 goals, and made 92 assists during his spell at Liverpool.

He also won eight titles with the club, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
