Watch highlights of Ghana’s 5-1 thrashing of Ivory Coast in WAFU U17 tournament

Ghana’s Under-17 team, the Black Starlets, thumped Ivory Coast 5-1 in the opener of the 2024 WAFU Zone B Under-17 tournament at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

The game was played on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

The team, led by former Black Stars winger Laryea Kingston, scored twice in the first half through Joseph Narbi.

Back from recess, the Black Starlets grabbed a third after Godfred Sarpong found the back of the net in the 48th minute.

On the 50th-minute mark, the Ivorians pulled one back to make it 3-1.

Harve Gbafa headed in Ghana’s fourth while Mark Mensah hit the fifth and final goal for the Black Starlets in added time.

The Black Starlets are determined to break Ghana’s U17 AFCON qualification drought dating back to 2017.

The team has set their sights on reaching the final of the 2024 WAFU Zone B Under-17 tournament to qualify for the 2025 U17 AFCON Championship.
