Budget 2020: We forgot Volta Region by ‘mistake’ -Osafo Maafo explains roads allocation mishap

Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo has explained that government did not deliberately leave out Volta Region out of the 2020 budget roads allocation.

In an interview on MyNewsGh.com’s sister platform Citi, Mr. Osafo Maafo said he has cross-checked with the Minister of roads who is currently in Japan and the indication he is getting is that it was an obvious mistake.

“I also noticed it on page 60 of the report and Volta Region was left out it was obviously a mistake, there are a lot of roads budgeted for in the Volta Region, I spoke to the Minister last night he was in Japan, when I also saw it I asked myself how could it be, because there were 15 regions instead of 16 and he said we have a whole list in the Volta Region..” he explained.

This after Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon Okudzeto Ablakwa raised the issue of neglect of Volta Region in the roads allocation.

“Why is provision not made in the 2020 Budget for critical road projects in the case of only the Volta Region? How does the Akufo-Addo Administration expect, particularly, MPs from the Volta Region to explain this to our constituents?” He asked.

“More fundamentally, how will Government justify this aberration in the face of the 1992 Constitution which enjoins Governments to undertake even and balanced development of all regions?” He added.

The senior minister has however settled the issue with his explanation.
