Eid: ‘Security’ll crash troublemakers, hate preachers’

President Nana Akufo-Addo has disclosed that the security agencies in the country will not spare any individual who engages in any form of violence including those incited by religion.

He has therefore advised the public to be cautious and watch out for individuals or groups in communities who will perpetuate such acts including preaching hate against any group.

“I urge you to be on the lookout for trouble makers and hate preachers amongst us. The security agencies will not hesitate to deal with those who incite hate, not even if they do so in the name of Islam or Christianity,” Mr Akufo-Addo said in a speech at the Independence Square in Accra to mark Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday 15 June 2018.

Muslims across the country have marked the end of Ramadan with the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr prayers performed by National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu with thousands attending the ceremony on Friday morning.

According to Mr Akufo-Addo, his “government remains committed to the welfare of the Muslim community in Ghana” and will do everything possible to solve challenges in Muslim communities.

In view of that, he indicated that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia continues to engage with the Muslim communities across the country to keep abreast of challenges in those communities.

Mr Akufo-Addo added that government will soon rollout programmes for youth in the Zongo communities to foster development.
