Coventry City forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has received a late call-up to the Ghana senior national team, the Black Stars, ahead of the team’s upcoming international fixtures.
Thomas-Asante was initially left out of head coach Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad announced on September 18, 2026. However, his situation changed after Viktoria Plzeň forward Prince Adu Kwabena was ruled out with a head injury.
The Ghana Football Association subsequently added Thomas-Asante to the squad as a replacement for the injured forward.
The late call-up gives Thomas-Asante another opportunity to represent Ghana as the Black Stars begin their preparations for a series of important matches.
Ghana are scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. The Black Stars will also face Morocco in an international friendly as part of the upcoming schedule.
Thomas-Asante has already been part of Ghana’s recent international setup and was included in the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
During Ghana’s World Cup campaign, the Coventry City forward played a role in the Black Stars’ victory over Panama. He provided the assist for Caleb Yirenkyi, who scored the winning goal.
His return to the national team comes at a time when Ghana are looking to build momentum ahead of the AFCON qualifying matches.
The 27-year-old forward has continued his club career with Coventry City following his move to the English Championship side. His ability to operate in attacking positions has made him an option for the Black Stars’ technical team.
The late invitation also means Thomas-Asante will have limited time to integrate into the squad compared with players who were selected in the original team.
Coach Carlos Queiroz will be expected to assess the available attacking options as Ghana prepare for the upcoming fixtures.
