Boxer Joseph Sackey Receives GH¢50,000 Gift from Pastor Adom Kyei-Duah After Viral Shorts Incident

Ghanaian boxer Joseph Sackey has confirmed receiving a generous gift of GH¢50,000 from Pastor Stephen Adom Kyei-Duah, the Founder and General Overseer of Believers Worship Centre. The gift came after the pastor learned that Sackey had worn shorts bearing his image during his recent “Battle of the Beasts” boxing match against a Pakistani opponent.

Despite losing the bout on June 14, 2025, Sackey’s unique show of spiritual dedication caught the attention of Adom Kyei-Duah. The pastor subsequently invited Sackey to his church, welcoming him warmly and affectionately referring to him as “Adom Ba” (Child of Adom).

Sackey confirmed that the substantial sum was presented to him after he honored an invitation to attend a Sunday church service on June 22, 2025.

In an emotional interview that quickly went viral on X on the same day, a visibly elated Joseph Sackey expressed his immense joy following the meeting with the pastor. “I’m incredibly happy. Everyone is now calling me Adom Ba,” he shared with enthusiasm.

Sackey, who harbors strong aspirations of becoming a champion, added, “I’m ready to defeat any boxer who comes my way. I couldn’t believe it when Papa called me on stage. When I get home today, I will sleep peacefully; he calls me a champion, so I will become like him. Nobody can defeat me now.”

According to YEN.com.gh on June 22, 2025, Bernard Okyere, a member of Believers Worship Centre, expressed gratitude to their leader for the kind gesture, stating, “Due to work and schooling, I don’t get time to go to church as often as I want but I was happy when I heard the news. Papa is a good man and we thank God for using him to win souls and help the youth.”

The boxer further revealed that he had spiritually prepared for his match by utilizing Prophet Kyei-Duah’s “Grace Miracle Water,” “Miracle Oil,” and “Sobolo” (a traditional Ghanaian beverage). He felt confident and ready to win, but he maintains that the referee’s alleged actions ultimately derailed his chances.

Following the match, Joseph Sackey firmly defended his performance, insisting that his defeat was unjust. He expressed frustration towards the referee, claiming the official had tripped him during the bout, which contributed to his loss. While acknowledging he felt dazed from his opponent Khan’s punches, he argued that he could have continued fighting if not for the referee’s interference, which led to the fight being stopped prematurely.

The pastor’s generous gesture has sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising his kindness and support for the youth, while others continue to question his motives behind the public display of benevolence.
