Jailed ‘Momo’ fraudster faces additional 100-years jail term for 2016, 2017 crimes-State Attorney hints

The notorious Mobile Money fraudster who used the names of the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin and the Member of Parliament (MP) for  Daffiama, Bussie, Issa Constituency, Dr. Sebastian Sandaari defraud several persons including former Upper West Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) risked being jailed for additional 100 years.

A Wa High Court presided over by Justice Kwesi Boakye jailed 32-year-old Nurudeen Abdul Ganiyu to 10-years imprisonment with hard labour which sent her wife and mother of two wailing within the court premises.

He was said to have pleaded guilty to the charges of defrauding by false pretense and money laundering and jailed on his own plea.

The trial judge in his ruling directed that refunds all monies stolen from victims and his uncompleted house built from the proceeds of the fraud confiscated to the state

But that is not all, the woes of the renowned mobile money fraudster appear to have worsened as  Saeed Abdul Shakur has hinted that different cases with different charges are emerging and he could be hauled before the court and thrown to jail for over 100 years if found guilty

“He is to serve a double warrant that make it 10-years in total. At the end of the day he could even go for hundred years if you see the cases that are coming. The facts are different, because the transactions took place at different times and different months. He was jailed for crimes that have perpetrated in June and August this year alone”, he revealed

Background

The convict was arrested in October and had in his possession over 30 registered SIM cards which he registered with different names using falsified National Identity Cards.  He succeeded in duping more than 50 people according to the Wa Police.

Proceeds of his nefarious activities spanning two-years have been channeled into the construction of a three-bedroom apartment located at the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) offices, one of the prime areas within the Wa Municipality. He said the 3-bedroom house is at lintel level.

Nurudeen Abdul Ganiu upon his arrest showed no signs of remorse while giving details of his modus operandi to the police.

“When you mention the name or the number, they will register the cards for you.” he confessed. He also claimed to be working for Wa-based Angel FM and has been filing reports for them. He bragged about how he acquired the identities of his victims and managed to dupe them over 150,000 cedis using over 40 mobile phones.”

Upon his arrest, Alhaji Short, one of his victims expressed shock over the incident and said he had once helped the criminal pay his school fees. The Deputy Upper West Regional police commander, ACP Peter A. Ndekugri said they nabbed him in Tamale where he was hiding. So far 13 people have emerged to identify him as the person who defrauded.
