Blow-by-blow account of how soldiers tortured and killed 2 suspected thieves

MyNewsGh.com has obtained shocking details of how some soldiers numbering Seven (7) went on a rampage, arrested and tortured suspected mobile phone thieves at Asafo BB in Kumasi, leading to the death of two while the other is still battling for his life.

According to sources to this portal, the incident occurred on Thursday, March 27, 2025, when a female civilian (name withheld) had her phone stolen by three guys from her car at Adum in Kumasi.

A lead was given as to where she could find the phone at Asafo BB, about 300 meters from Adum, where it was stolen. Before she arrived, the suspected thieves had sold the phone to another person for Ghc3,000, and the buyer was unwilling to part with the stolen phone until the full amount was paid.

Because she did not have enough money on her, she offered to top up with GH¢500 and, managed to retrieve her phone on Friday morning, March 28, and left happily for Accra.

Later that afternoon, around 1 pm, a military patrol vehicle (Toyota Hilux) showed up with seven (7) heavily armed soldiers led by a Lieutenant of Achiase Jungle Warfare. They requested for the Three 3) thieves to be handed over to them at Asafo BB.

The suspects were handed over to them, and after some physical abuse, they took them away to the 4BN Barracks at Sofoline in Kumasi to torture them with Heavy wood, fan belts, pepper spray, and powdered pepper, among other life-threatening objects.

After they brutalized the three suspected thieves and realized they were almost dead, they dumped them at a bush near the Rotary Park opposite the Lancaster Hotel and drove off.

One of them, who had little strength, managed to move to the road nearby, where he found a driver who knew him to give him money to buy some water to wash his face and struggle to find his way to Asafo to announce that his two other friends had passed out.

The men at BB rushed to Rotary Park for the bodies and took them to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where they were pronounced dead. The survivor was also rushed to the emergency centre at KATH.

The suspected thieves have been identified as Christian Obiri Yeboah (a.k.a Kofi Yesu), 20 years, and a loading boy at Asafo Labor, Adu Kwame, a.k.a Ogyee, 32 years, and Kwabena Sarfo, about 27 years.

Meanwhile, the Military High Command has, in a statement, stated that “we assure all that anyone found culpable would be dealt with according to the law. We also urge the families and friends of the victims to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigations.”
