Black Queens Arrive in Morocco for WAFCON Preparations

The Black Queens of Ghana have officially begun their final phase of preparations for the highly anticipated TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Morocco 2025. The team arrived in Benslimane, Morocco, on Tuesday evening, setting up camp for approximately 14 days of intensive training ahead of the continental tournament, scheduled to run from July 5 to July 26.

Nineteen of the twenty-four players provisionally selected by Coach Kim Lars have already reported to the Ziaida Palace Hotel to commence their drills. The remaining five squad members are expected to join their teammates in the coming days, completing the roster. To ensure maximum focus and tactical secrecy, all training sessions for the Black Queens will be closed to both the public and the media.

During their stay in Benslimane, the Ghanaian contingent will fine-tune their strategies and build team cohesion through a series of friendly matches. These crucial warm-up games will serve as a vital opportunity for Coach Lars to assess his squad and iron out any kinks before the main event. Following their preparations in Benslimane, the team will travel to Oudja for their opening fixture of the tournament.

The Black Queens find themselves in a challenging Group B at WAFCON 2025, where they will face formidable opponents in South Africa, Tanzania, and Mali. Their campaign kicks off with a high-stakes encounter against the defending champions, South Africa, on July 7. This opening match promises to be a stern test of their readiness and a pivotal moment in their quest for continental glory. The team’s focused preparation in Morocco aims to equip them with the best possible chance to navigate this tough group and make a deep run in the competition.
