Black Maidens progress to next round of qualifiers after win over Liberia

Black Maidens dispatched Liberia in a 10-goal aggregate win to qualify for the next round of the 2020 FIFA U-17 World Cup Qualifiers.

Striker Ophelia Osei Amponsah was in a devastating form as she unleashed the first of the afternoon under two minutes, added a second in the 3rd minute before Salamatu Abdulai made it 3 in the 4th minute.

Amponsah registered her third and fourth goal in the 12th and 14th in minutes respectively to add to her tally on the afternoon.

27 minutes into the second half, Midfielder Elizabeth Oppong drove in a spectacular long-range shot to make it six for the Black Maidens.

In the 64th minute, substitute Alice Sarpong was brought down in by a frustrated Liberia defence resulting in a penalty which she converted to make it 7-0 before Tracy Twum added the match-winner in the 66th minute.

During the first leg encounter in Monrovia, Black Maidens recorded a 2-0 victory over the Lonestars and today’s mauling means the Black Maidens await the Flamingos of Nigeria in the next round of matches.
