President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Friday gave the assurance that the passage of the Bill against Vigilantism would strengthen national peace and social cohesion.

The Bill, he explained was put before Parliament and its passage would not only disband political vigilante groups, but target and fish out individual politicians who finance the groups.

President Akufo-Addo said his government would not sit unconcerned for political parties and politicians to intimidate and put unnecessary fear in the minds and heart of Ghanaian voters.

Addressing the chiefs and people of Sankore in the Asunafo South District of Ahafo Region at a durbar to kick-start his three-day working visit to Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions, President Akufo-Addo condemned the recurring political violence at Sankore and promised his government’s determination to promote peace and stability in the area.

He said the era of intimidations and political violence was past and thus the need to create peaceful atmosphere for Ghanaian voters to feel free and cast their ballot in Election 2020 to consolidate the gains of Ghana’s democracy.

President Akufo-Addo applauded the chiefs and people of the area for the peaceful referendum towards the creation of the new Ahafo Region and entreated the people to do same in Election 2020.

Responding to an appeal by Ogyedom Okatakyie Appiah-Kubi II, the Paramount Chief of Sankore for the establishment of a technical school in the area, the President said his government was constructing 21 state-of-the-art technical schools nationwide and would consider building one in the Ahafo Region.

Nana Akufo-Addo promised his government would rehabilitate the Sankore-Kukuom-Aboum road to facilitate the easy movement of the people and their economic activities.

Ogyedom Appiah-Kubi II said Ghana required a long term development plan, which would serve as a road map for successive governments and appealed to the President to work towards that direction.

He appealed to the President to ensure the release of funds to improve on the infrastructure at the Kwapong Nursing Training College to create conducive environment to facilitate effective teaching and learning.
