NPP grabs PNC man

The Upper East Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appointed a leading member of the People’s National Convention (PNC) in the region – Johnson Apasinaba Ayine – as the NPP’s Regional Deputy Communications Director.

Per his appointment, Mr. Ayine says he ceases to be a member of the PNC and in due time he will resign from the party in order to concentrate on his new role with the NPP.

Even though Mr. Ayine stated in an interview that his appointment and elevation to an executive status in the NPP came to him as a surprise, for many political watchers and some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), they were not surprised at his appointment because of his seeming affiliation to the NPP.

For a long time, he has been perceived to be sympathetic towards the NPP even though he was still a strong member of the PNC. On many political talk shows, he spoke in ways that suggested his love for the NPP and President Akufo-Addo in particular.

In his view, joining the NPP from the PNC will not be something new, as many people have been invited to join either the NPP or the NDC in the past to contribute their quota to the development of these parties and the country as a whole.

Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Secretary of the PNC, Albert Adongo, has told Daily Guide that the party is yet to receive an official notification from Johnson Apasinaba Ayine concerning his decision to join the NPP.
