Be ambassadors of peace – Bawumia to Imams, Chiefs

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called on Muslim clerics and chiefs in the Northern region to be lead advocates for peace in the area.

He commended the Imams and Ulamas for their exemplary show of maturity and tolerance throughout the month of Ramadan adding “I am told that tensions which usually characterise Tafsirs in Ramadan were clearly non-existent this year, this is attributed to initiatives and good collaboration between the Regional Security Council and our revered Imams and Ulamas”.

Addressing Muslims at the Tamale Jubilee Park to observe Eid-ul-Fitr prayers on Friday 15 June 2018, Dr Bawumia said President Nana Akufo-Addo remains steadfast and committed to delivering on his promises.

He said 3000 Arabic Instructors have been recruited to strengthen Arabic education curriculum in the country.

“Let me emphasise that, we are practicing an all-inclusive government and in our quest to invest in the education sector, we are leaving no stone unturned,” he stressed.

He revealed that government has maintained last year’s Hajj fares for prospective pilgrims this year.

According to the Vice President, government’s next line of action would focus on improving the country’s infrastructure especially in the areas of water, roads and hospitals.

He also reassured the people in the North that plans are underway for the construction of an interchange in Tamale later this year.
