Addressing thousands in Koforidua during his tour of the Eastern Region, Dr. Bawumia stated that as Ghana advances in its digital revolution, there is a need for citizens to have more affordable access to mobile phones, as they are essential tools in any digitized country. This is why he has decided to scrap taxes on mobile phones.
“One of the things I want to do as President, by the grace of God, is to remove taxes on mobile phones,” Dr. Bawumia declared.
“We will eliminate these taxes so that the cost of mobile phones in Ghana will be more affordable,” he added.
“With the work we are doing in digitalization and the efforts we want to make with the youth, taxes on mobile phones need to be removed. I will take action to make mobile phones cheaper and more accessible in Ghana.”
Dr. Bawumia, who has been recognised for Ghana’s digital revolution over the past eight years, has announced his intentions to elevate Ghana’s digitalization efforts to a higher level during his Presidency.
As part of the enhanced digital revolution, he has expressed his desire to see Ghana become Africa’s digital hub.
To achieve this goal, he has unveiled plans to train one million young Ghanaians in digital skills and prepare them for global opportunities in the digital space.
