Social media users accuse Hearts of Oak of playing fixed match with Bechem Utd to escape relegation

Some local football enthusiasts on social media, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter), have accused Hearts of Oak and Bechem United of playing a match to help the former avoid relegation.

Many based their accusations on the goals Hearts of Oak scored to secure a crucial victory on Sunday, June 17, 2024.

However, some defended the scoreline, questioning why fans only criticized Hearts’ goals.

The 21-time league champions made a second-half comeback to defeat Bechem 3-2 at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

Hearts of Oak needed the win in the away fixture to maintain their top-flight status.

Initially falling behind after Emmanuel Owusu opened the scoring in the 30th minute, Kofi Agbesimah equalized three minutes later with a powerful header.

The first half ended tied at one, leaving the Rainbow side in danger of relegation.

Bechem United regained the lead in the second half through Bismark Edjeodji, worsening the visitors’ situation. However, two late goals from Kelvin Asibey and Yaw Amankwaa Baafi turned the game in Hearts’ favor.
