Bawku: Unknown youth reportedly set Mahama Ayariga’s house on fire

A yet-to-be-identified youth group has partially set the house of Bawku Central MP and Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, on fire. The incident occurred on Thursday, April 10, 2025, amid rising tensions in the Bawku Municipality.

Reports from TV3 indicate that the military has since intervened, taking control of the area to prevent further escalation.

The violence follows a shooting incident on Wednesday, which resulted in one death and two others critically injured.

In addition to Ayariga’s residence, the private home of Bawku Divisional Police Commander, ACP Adamu Seidu, was also set on fire.

The unrest reportedly stemmed from a faction of the ongoing chieftaincy dispute demanding that women from the opposing faction, who were trading at the market, vacate the premises. A scuffle broke out, prompting police intervention.

Gunfire then erupted when some youth allegedly fired on the police, leading to an exchange of shots.
