Bawku: One more person killed, death toll hits 33

Another person has been killed in Bawku following a shootout in the Mazema enclave late Tuesday night.

The deceased, identified as Atengani, was reportedly killed in a crossfire involving the military.

This latest incident brings the total death toll in the area to 33 since the conflict resurfaced in October this year.

Meanwhile, the area remains under a 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. curfew enforced by security agencies.

The conflict, which resurfaced in late October 2024, has led to frequent shootings, particularly during curfew hours.

The situation remains tense, with both residents and security forces struggling to contain the violence in the region.

The renewed conflict reportedly intensified following the return of rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre from exile, along with recent ambushes targeting travellers, which have further inflamed tensions in the area.
