Barker-Vormawor loses Cambridge scholarship over treason case

His accusation follows the decision of the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, to withdraw the treason felony charges that had been hanging over him for more than two years.

The charges stemmed from statements he made in 2022, which authorities deemed as inciting a coup against the government. Barker-Vormawor was arrested and charged after allegedly stating on social media that he would lead a coup if the government approved the controversial E-Levy.

Reacting to the Attorney General’s decision, Barker-Vormawor took to social media to sarcastically commend the NPP government and Godfred Dame.

“Since the intention was to impede my doctoral programme, I want to say ‘Ayekoo’ to the Government and to Godfred Dame.

They succeeded. Kindly release my passport and take me off the No-Fly List. And now that I have lost my funding for Cambridge, we need to address that too so I can finish my programme. Shalom,” he wrote.

On February 14, 2022, Baker-Vormawor was formally arraigned and subsequently committed to stand trial at the High Court. However, before the Attorney General’s recent decision to drop the charges, the case had not yet begun despite multiple appearances before Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh.
