The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has waded into the ongoing controversy over the Supreme Court’s ruling that set aside his declaration of four seats in Parliament vacant.

Mr Bagbin in a post on Facebook wrote, “God bless our homeland Ghana and make it great and strong, beyond any single individual or institution.”

The Speaker of Parliament last week declared the following seats vacant:

1. Kwadwo Asante, the current NPP MP for the Suhum constituency in the Eastern Region, who has also filed to run as an independent candidate.

2. Andrew Asiamah Amoako, currently an independent MP for the Fomena constituency in the Ashanti Region, who has filed to run in the upcoming election as a candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

3. Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central), NDC.

4. Cynthia Morrison, the current NPP MP for Agona West constituency in the Central Region, who has filed to run as an independent candidate.

But, the Supreme Court on Friday, October 18 stayed the ruling of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, that declared the four seats in the House vacant.

His post has elicited varied reactions from netizens with some suggesting that Parliamentarians have placed themselves above the law.

“But is it even Cryptic? I thought we all know what he’s talking about. We’re living in a country where a group have made a law and positioned themselves above the laws the created.

Another, wholly agreed with the Speaker’s message.
