Baba Rahman marks Stade Reims debut with victory over Stade Rennes

Ghana defender Baba Abdul Rahman made his debut for Stade Reims in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday in their 2-0 victory over Stade Rennes.

The left back who joined on loan from Chelsea in the winter transfer window lasted the entire duration of the game as the host cruise to victory.

Rahman was making his first competitive appearance after 68 days and hugely impressed for someone who has lacked game time.

The 24-year-old left Schalke after a disappointing second loan spell with the Royal Blues, where he last played a competitive game for the club in the champions’ league against Lokomotiv Moscow.

Just two minutes into the game, Stade Reims took the lead through forward Boulaye Dia after a brilliant piece of play.

Dia’s strike partner Remi Oudin doubled the lead in the second half with a left footed racket shot in the 68th minute.

The win sends Stade Reims to seventh on the table ahead of OGC Nice with 38 points in 25 games.

Baba Rahman will be expected to make the trip to Montepellier next Sunday after an impressive debut.
