Some grassroot supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency have declared their readiness to support actor John Dumelo to contest as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the upcoming by-elections for the area.
According to them, their decision was informed by Mr Dumelo’s dedication and love for the party as well as his unique personality which they believe can capture power for the party in the elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Friday, 14 December 2018, Justice Kojo Kyei Poku, the convener of the group said: “We all know Mr Dumelo has been with the party for a long time and he is in good standing.
“He has been with us in both good and bad times and we think this is the right time for us to give him the opportunity to lead the party in this constituency.
“He’s well known in the grassroot and he has helped a lot of the youth in the constituency. As we cast our eyes around all over the place, we haven’t seen anybody capable of leading us in this crucial by-election.
“So as concerned NDC members at Ayawaso West constituency, Dumelo is a very lovable person, down to earth person and we need a leader that will unite us, a leader that will bring development and as you can see, we are here for John Dumelo. John Dumelo is our choice and we believe he is the one who can lead us and bring victory to the NDC.”
Meanwhile, the multiple award-winning actor has not declared his intent to contest in the by-election.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon seat became vacant after Mr Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko died in November this year after an illness.
Following his death, some constituents have been campaigning for a successor.
