Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested seven aggrieved customers of troubled gold trading firm Menzgold for “unlawful” demonstration.

The seven, will appear before court Wednesday on charges of offensive conduct and unlawful assembly.

The seven were among hundreds that demonstrated over their locked up investment with the firm in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.

The protesting customers of the gold firm were prevented from entering the Manhyia Palace by the Ashanti regional Police Command Tuesday.

According to the customers, they wanted to call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to intervene in the ongoing crisis with the gold company.

Their action impeded smooth flow of traffic between Amakom and Adum.

Ashanti regional police public relations officer, Gordon Ahianyo says the leadership of the demonstrators defiled police directive not to go ahead with the demonstration.
