Nana Sey in November 2018 invoked dreaded deities in the region on those who opposed the creation. However, out of the 323,708 people who voted, 319,296 (98.64 per cent) voted Yes and 2,878 voted No (0.89 per cent) while the number of rejected ballots was 951 (0.24 per cent).
The Electoral Commission has said with a percentage of 98.64, Oti thus passed the test for the creation of a new region.
But in an interview with Adom News, Nana Sey said he will not revoke the curse because critics are still seeking their downfall.
He cited how the region endowed with rich mineral resources cannot even boost of basic amenities to buttress his point thus anyone against it will suffer the penalty.
“A lot of things are not going on well in the Oti region and so we were happy the president proposed the creation of the new region. What we want is what we must get and so am glad the referendum was successful to pave way for the region creation.”
An elated Nana Sey said “I have been drinking Guinness all day to celebrate victory of the Oti region because I know it is a deliberate action of some people to still oppose the new region.”
The new Oti region was part of the six new regions that were expected to be created across the country through a referendum which came off on December 27, 2018.
