Audio: How KNUST student faked death to escape brutality from campus security

A student leader at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has given a chilling account of how a student brutalised by campus security had to fake death to escape further brutality.

Local President of the National Union of Ghana Students, (NUGS) Yaw Boapong Adu-Brempong recounted how the campus’ internal security, on the orders of ‘SS Justice Nawa’ beat up a student, Christopher Sarkodie, leading to his hospitalization.

Mr Adu-Brempong revealed that the student had to fake death just to escape the severe beatings he was receiving from some campus security guards.

He explained that the victim was not part of demonstrators but because he was a member of Katanga Hall, he was brutalized by the security.

The Local NUGS President said in KNUST, continuing students’ right to freedom of movement is severely restricted at University Hall.

Mr Adu-Brempong recounted four incidents of recurrent abuses against students including how the university’s campus security, speaking through walki-talkis, referred to the students as ‘cockroaches’.
