Audio: How 7 people sustained severe injuries during clashes in Kumasi

A tussle over a parcel of land led to bloody clashes between two factions at Dagomba Line, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

This was after the supposed owner of the land, who had secured a court order, tried to evict hundreds of squatters to pave way for a school.

Nhyira FM’s Awuku Malik, who witnessed the incident, said the angry squatters hurled stones, cutlasses and other dead weapons at the landlord and his thugs.

The exchange, he said on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme on Wednesday, led to seven people including a woman sustaining severe injuries.

“I saw the woman with blood oozing out of her legs and other parts of the body. She looked restless,” he narrated in Twi.

He said but for the timely intervention of the police who fired gunshots to disperse the angry factions, the issue would have been deadly.

There is heightened tension at the Dagomba Line as the squatters are allegedly planning a reprisal attack for the destruction of their homes.

Some of the squatters, who led the chaos, were apprehended by the police.

Those who sustained injuries were rushed to the Manhyia Hospital and later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.
