Audio: GNAT welcomes dismissal of teachers for sexual misconduct, stealing

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has welcomed the dismissal of 10 of their members for various offences including stealing and sexual misconduct in their respective schools.

General Secretary of GNAT, David Ofori Acheampong, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Friday said members who break rules must be sanctioned in accordance with the guidelines governing the teaching practice.

According to him, teachers are always advised to conduct themselves well in sexually-related issues, therefore, the association cannot support any member who is involved in sexual misconducts.

“We always advise our teachers that we can’t support them when they are involved in sexual misconducts with their students; we accept this sanction in good fate,” he said.

He believes teachers must be role models to the students therefore the dismissal will serve as a deterrent to others.

“We believe as a teacher, we are role models to your students and owe them a moral obligation so we will even support the authorities in such sanctions,” he added.

Background
