Ashanti Region: Hired Land guards of Chief terrorizing residents

Police in Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region have confirmed to MyNewsGh.com that they are investigating Nana Brefo Appau III, chief of Akwaboa in the Atwima Nwabiagya North in the Ashanti Region for allegedly hiring the services of the land guards to terrorise residents opposing ideas.

MyNewsGh.com gathered, there was sporadic shooting in the community over the weekend after some residents attempted to stop the chief from selling the only parcel of land meant for a recreational centre there.

“There was sporadic shooting by these land guards on the Sunday around 11 Pm and everyone was taken a hostage”, a resident and youth leader of the community Yaw Baah popularly called J.J recounted on Nhyira FM morning show MyNewsGh.com monitored.

The youth leader told host, Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin the aggrieved youth in the area a day before the incident prevented Nana Brefo Appau II and other sub chiefs  from selling a land to a private developer and that might be the reason the elders of Akwaboah hired services of land guards to fight them back.

Speaking to the chief, Nana Brefo Appau III confirmed he has indeed been invited by the police over the incident but is yet to respond.

“I have been invited by Abuakwa police so I am going to tell them my side of the story”.

District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Rebecca Yeboah has since visited the scene and has assured them of maximum security as well as vowing to bring suspected persons behind the criminal acts to book.
