Asawase Killing: Be Cautious In Your Utterances – Minister

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah has cautioned the public to be cautious in their utterances vis-à-vis shooting of some seven people at Manso-Nkwanta in Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region leading to the interdiction of 21 police personnel.

According to him, any unpleasant comments can discourage the Police Service in discharging their duties and worsen the plight of the bereaved families.

“People are saying the 21 Police personnel have been sacked which is untrue, interdicting some doesn’t mean the person has been sacked. Investigations are still underway and the situation is precarious so we have to be circumspect in our utterances in order not to worsen the plight of the bereaved families and also the Ghana Police Service, in general” Hon. Osei Mensah said in an interview on Tuesday, 20th November, 2018.

The committee that was put together by government to investigate the shooting of some seven people at Manso-Nkwanta in Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region has concluded that there is no basis to believe the victims were armed robbers as was claimed by the Police.

The government has, therefore, decided that: “The 21 police personnel involved in the incident who have been found to be the principal suspects, be interdicted by the police administration and be subjected to formal police criminal investigation into the matter”.

This was contained in a press release signed by Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, which was dated Sunday, 18 November 2018.

However, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah urged the public to exercise restrain while the government is implementing the recommendations in the report.
