Asante Kotoko explains Coach Ogum’s exit amid title Race Pressure

Asante Kotoko’s decision to part ways with head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum just weeks before the season’s end has ignited debate among fans and pundits alike.

Although official statements have been limited, Communications Director Samuel Sarfo Duku offered clarity in an interview with the club’s newspaper, Daily Porcupine, shedding light on the internal factors that led to Ogum’s departure.

Duku revealed that Ogum was given full autonomy over player recruitment, with the club’s management backing him throughout the process. However, as performances faltered, it became evident that the coaching staff bore the ultimate responsibility.

“We gave him complete freedom to recruit players of his choice. So if the team is underperforming and management is fulfilling its obligations, the responsibility for results clearly lies with the technical team,” Duku stated.

The poor run of form, seen as a failure to unlock the squad’s potential, ultimately sealed Ogum’s fate.

Despite the shake-up, Duku assured fans that the club remains focused on delivering silverware this season.

“We are still fighting for the double, even though it’s gotten tougher—especially in the league. We led for weeks, but now we’ve slipped six points behind the leaders. Still, we remain committed to our goals,” he affirmed.
