Asamoah Gyan reportedly goes bankrupt
Former Shanghai SIPG striker, Asamoah Gyan, is said to have gone bankrupt despite being named as once in the list of world’s highest-paid footballers.
The 33-year-old while in the Chinese Super League reportedly earned £227,000-a-week during his two-year involvement (2015-17) in the league. SunSport quoting Ghana news outlet MyNewsGh.com revealed that the former Sunderland forward has not spoken to his family for four months now.
Reports claim that the attacker only has about £600 in his bank account, and he is claiming his present club in the Turkish League Kayserispor are yet to pay his wages.
Further investigations according to the above named outlet stated that the only account Gyan has in Turkey is empty. Gyan, who has 51 goals in 105 appearances for his country, reportedly said: “My front and back, up and down is that money (£600) you see there.”
Since leaving Sunderland in 2012, the striker spent three years at UAE club Al Ain where he earned just under £200k a week and scored an impressive 123 goals in 120 appearances.
He then earned another big-money move to the Chinese Super League, spending the 2015 and 2016 seasons at Shanghai SIPG before returning to the UAE with Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai. However, the African player with the highest number of goals at the World Cup (6 goals) is broke and has not been able to take care of his family.Meanwhile, his move to Turkey last year has not been helpful as the impact of the deal he signed does not reflect on his family.
He is said to be planning to marry his recently found girlfriend, Nina Atalah once his first marriage has been cancelled. Away from football, Gyan tried his hand at boxing promotion in 2012.
And in 2017 he was reportedly granted an Air Carriers Licence by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority as he looked to launch his Baby Jet Airlines. YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy, were interested in signing former Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue. The 35-year-old hasn’t featured in any competitive football match since May 2014 – after starring for Galatasaray in their Turkish Cup final victory over Eskisehirspor. He was bundled out of the club the following season after the club reached the number of foreign players in the league.
