A technical system failure at the Ghana Gas Processing Plant has led to a temporary shutdown of operations, disrupting gas supply to thermal power stations and causing power outages in parts of the country.
The incident affected the flow of natural gas that fuels major thermal plants responsible for electricity generation, resulting in intermittent power interruptions in some regions.
According to reports, the shutdown was triggered by a major fault in the plant’s control systems. As a safety measure, operators were forced to halt production while engineers move in to assess and resolve the issue.
The disruption in gas supply has directly impacted thermal power generation, leading to instability in electricity distribution and contributing to the recent outages experienced by consumers.
Energy sector authorities have confirmed that technical teams are currently working to identify the root cause of the failure and restore full operations as quickly as possible. Repair and stabilization efforts are ongoing at the facility.
The situation has once again exposed the vulnerability of Ghana’s power supply system, which relies heavily on gas-fired thermal plants. Any interruption in gas production or supply often has a direct effect on national electricity stability.
While officials have not given a definite timeline for full restoration, they have assured the public that efforts are underway to normalize operations and minimize further disruptions.
The incident has also renewed public concern about the reliability of the country’s energy infrastructure, especially given previous occurrences of similar disruptions affecting power supply.
