Teacher Trainees vow to resist attempt by NSS to post them
The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has denied agreeing to the posting of newly trained teachers by the National Service Scheme (NSS).
President of the Association, Anthony Dadzie on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Thursday, said their presence in the meeting was not to go and agree or disagree with the National Service Secretariat.
“We were invited to the meeting to which we obliged but it doesn’t mean we agreed to what was discussed,” he said.
The Ministry of Education had said it reached an agreement with the trainee teacher group for newly trained teachers to be posted by the NSS.
The National Service Scheme said it has released about 14,000 pin codes to get trainee teachers across the country to undertake a compulsory one-year national service before being employed by the government.
A new directive from the government stipulates that newly trained teachers will undertake their service after writing the Teacher Licensure Examinations which will provide them with a formal license for their teaching career.
But the newly trained teachers have vowed to resist all attempts by the government to force them to undertake the mandatory national service unless the posting is done by the Ghana Education Service.
According to them, they had been promised immediate postings after writing the licensure exam.
