Another police officer in critical condition after attack by gunmen
A Police Officer with the Ejura-Sekyedumase District Command of the Ashanti Region is in critical condition after he was shot in the head by some unknown gunmen.
The officer, Corporal Bernard Kyei was part of a patrol team that responded to a robbery attack on the Ejura-Mampong Highway at about 11:00pm on Sunday.
The patrol team had gone to the scene to clear off roadblocks which were mounted on a section of the highway by the robbers.
The team, according to police were shot at by the robbers, leaving Corporal Kyei injured in the process.
The victim is currently battling for his life at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Ejura-Sekyedumase District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Richardson Kumekor, who confirmed the incident to Citi News says police found a driver who was killed in his Benz truck at the scene.
He says the driver who has been identified as Iddrisu Hamid veered into the bush when he was shot by the robbers.
The driver’s body has been deposited at the Ejura Government Hospital morgue.
Police say they suspect the driver was the target of the robbers in that operation.
The incident comes a day after the Asiwa District Police Commander and four others were also shot by gunmen in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region.
