Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has indicated that undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas made an attempt to blackmail President Nana Akufo-Addo with his Number 12 investigative project.

Describing Anas as a “blackmailer and extortionist” the MP said “he (Anas) was going to blackmail Akufo-Addo. Because he (President Akufo-Addo) didn’t pay that is why he showed it”.

Mr Agyapong who has launched scathing attacks on Anas and questioned his undercover reporting methods said blackmail is the modus operandi of Anas.

According to him “the President is very principled, he knows the law and he said go ahead (and show the video), but the person who mentioned my name [for influence peddling] I will let the police arrest him”.

He explained that Anas wanted money from Akufo-Addo in order not to show the portion of the video where Mr Nyantakyi was seen using the President’s name for alleged dubious purposes including suggestions that some $5million can be given to Mr Akufo-Addo in order to secure contracts for the supposed businessman Mr Nyantakyi was dealing with.

He said “President Akufo-Addo is a strong minded person so even after viewing the videos shown to him Anas could not threaten him. He (Mr Akufo-Addo) didn’t give him a pesewa that is why Anas came to show that”.
Mr Agyapong in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen was asked by the host if Anas indicated that he wanted money.

In response, Mr Agyapong said it was “the style of Anas”.

He further said Anas “was an evil minded boy who brings institutions and governments down because of his daily bread”. According to him Anas has now been exposed and “I will face him with all my life”.

Explaining further he pointed that Anas shows the video to individuals involved and “then when you panic you begin to offer something and then he says bring this. He realised from the President’s posture that he is not even interested and scared so he (Anas) realised getting money will not work because President Akufo-Addo was not going to pay a dime to him”.
